The 6 sites should be operational by July 2018. <strong><em>\u201cAnd, we are very happy to rely on the skills of the young and innovative SME <a href=\"http:\/\/mascara-nt.fr\">MASCARA RENEWABLE WATER<\/a> (Chartres, France) in order to achieve a fundamental dimension of this project: water desalination\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, says enthusiastically <strong>Thierry BARBOTTE, Managing Director of VERGNET HYDRO<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>While these villages are located at more than 200 km of the coastline, the <strong>ground water is brackish and doesn\u2019t meet the World Health Organization (WHO) drinking water standards<\/strong>. Salt water consumption causes <strong>dehydration and kidney diseases<\/strong>. The brine <strong>damages the pump equipment and the pipes, corrodes them<\/strong>, leads to the spread of metal particles, which can cause <strong>cancer, cardiovascular diseases, etc.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22508 size-medium alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vergnet-hydro.com\/vh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Dessalement_energie_solaire_Mozambique2-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Enfants r\u00e9alisant la corv\u00e9e d'eau dans la Province de Gaza (Mozambique).\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vergnet-hydro.com\/vh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Dessalement_energie_solaire_Mozambique2-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vergnet-hydro.com\/vh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Dessalement_energie_solaire_Mozambique2-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.vergnet-hydro.com\/vh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Dessalement_energie_solaire_Mozambique2-1.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>A solar-powered desalination process that doesn&#8217;t need any battery<\/h3>\n<p>The MASCARA solar-powered desalination process is all the more innovative, cost-efficient and ecological as it <strong>doesn\u2019t need any battery for the power storage.<\/strong> The energy produced by the 6 solar fields directly powers its 6 desalination units based on the reverse osmosis technology: the <strong>OSMOSUN\u00ae<\/strong>. <strong><em>\u201cIt is our first project in Africa and our first project dealing with brackish water, and not sea water. This project is marking a turning point in the history of our young company\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, claims <strong>Marc VERGNET, MASCARA Chairman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The 6 solar fields (from 80m2 to 160m2)\u00a0are going to power 6 OSMOSUN\u00ae and 6 electric water pumps appropriate for these salt waters. They are going to pipe the drinking water to the <strong>6 water towers<\/strong>, which will provide the gravity-fed <strong>small piped water systems<\/strong>. The residual water will be rejected in infiltration basins. <strong><em>\u201cFor 100 liters of pumped brackish water, 80 liters of drinking water will be supplied to the villagers\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, specifies <strong>Romain DUBREUIL, Business Development Manager of VERGNET HYDRO<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The total power of these 320 photovoltaic panels will be about 88 kWc.<\/strong> Each site will contain a container in which there will be one OSMOSUN\u00ae, one remote management system (using GSM and internet) and one electrical cabinet for the pump and the desalination unit. <em>\u201cThese premises will host the monitoring equipment the unit, knowing that <strong>keeping up an OSMOSUN\u00ae only requires to change its filter every now and then and to replace its membrane every 10 years<\/strong>\u201d<\/em>, adds <strong>Thomas CANDELORO, Project Manager of VERGNET HYDRO<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-22525 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vergnet-hydro.com\/vh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Dessalement_energie_solaire_Mozambique3-300x192.jpg\" alt=\"Dessalement_energie_solaire_Mozambique3\" width=\"300\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vergnet-hydro.com\/vh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Dessalement_energie_solaire_Mozambique3-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vergnet-hydro.com\/vh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Dessalement_energie_solaire_Mozambique3-768x492.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.vergnet-hydro.com\/vh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Dessalement_energie_solaire_Mozambique3.jpg 936w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>A drinking water service managed by a private company<\/h3>\n<p>VERGNET HYDRO leads the project and provides the equipment, MASCARA will set up the desalination units and AFRIDEV MATI MOZAMBIQUE LDA carries out the local construction works, and is in charge of local management. Indeed, <strong>the Mozambican SME is going to manage a communitarian water service<\/strong> (equipment maintenance and water sales) for these 6 piped networks and 15 other small piped water systems in this Province. <em>\u201cSupervising and guaranteeing an ongoing water service in which everyone pays for one\u2019s own consumption is a wonderful challenge for our company.
